This is a cosy room where we look after up to 6 babies per session with 2 members of staff. The focus is on nurturing with lots of cuddles, feeding, changing, sleeping and generally having fun.
We spend lots of time on the floor with the children reading stories, singing and playing to help develop early language. We provide a range of sensory toys and books to help babies develop their sensory skills.
Infants under 12 months continue to eat food provided from home before moving onto our nursery menus. The room is self-contained with a fridge, microwave and bottle warmer for storing and preparing food and bottles for the children to suit their routines.
Babies generally start speaking at this age, so one the key focuses is on early language development. We spend a lot of time on singing, nursery rhymes, reading stories, and playing with the children. This is also the age group where we introduce colours, shapes and counting.
Planning is linked to pre-birth to three and Building the Ambition so that focus is maintained on meeting development milestones. As well as a focus on language development, there is also a strong focus on developing social skills. Children are taught to share and take turns, and to play together in small groups.
In this room, children are introduced to the nursery menu and are encouraged to sit at the table and start feeding themselves with lots of support.
This is a big bright room that is laid out in focus areas to encourage the children to continue to develop social interaction through play. The room can be divided into 3 area where key workers can focus on specific areas of development with small groups.
As they get ready for the move to pre-school, we focus on developing the child's concentration with more group activities and longer story times.
With this age group, we also have a strong focus on developing the concepts of maths with lots of counting, number recognition, and one to one association experiences.
This is a large bright room with direct access to the garden and is laid out and resourced to meet the guidance of the Curriculum for Excellence and children's individual interests.
A key focus for the key worker is on developing the child's Early Years Profile. This documents the child's progress and development through the early stages of the curriculum and provides evidence of their readiness for the move on to Primary 1.
Pre-school children are encouraged to take responsibility for changing their own coats and shoes. Direct access from the room to the toilets helps them to develop independent toileting skills.
We are primarily focused on encouraging our children to become: Confident individuals, Successful learners, Effective contributors, and Responsible citizens.
